Season table Autumn

A season table is a beautiful way to make your child aware of all the changes in nature. To go out and collect things from nature which reflect the season or make things yourself. Here are some examples of what I made for us at home and for the antroposofic kindergarden of my daugther. Mainly using felting and sewing techniques. Every weeks she brings something proudly with her to the kindergarden to add to the season table.

Mushrooms of autumn. Dry felting technique, wool and walnut. Size: 5cm.

Autumn leaves on a string. Dry felting and sewing: wool and cotton. Strung the leaves on a gold string with glass beads in between. Size of each leave about 7cm.

Strings of autumn. Wet felting technique: wool. Strung the felt balls on a string together with glass beads and pine cones we found in the forest.

Felted acorn garland. Dry felted 2cm balls, acorn caps, golden thread. 40 balls.

Mushroom pegdolls. Cute painted wooden dolls with a felt head. Sweet on the season table. 8-9cm high.

Sinterklaas and his friend Piet. In the netherlands we have the sinterklaas-tradition. In November he arrives to the Netherlands with all his Piets from Spain on his steamboat. At night he rides on his white horse over the roofs. Children can leave their shoe next to the chimney in the evening and sings songs and he might leave a small present for them to find in the morning. On the 5th of December we celebrate the birthday of Sinterklaas, families gather and wait in excitement for a knock on the door and a bag of presents with poems… we drink hot chocolate and eat spiced cookies (pepernootjes and speculaas).

Sinterklaas and Piet, painted wooden pegdolls with embroidered felt clothing, 7-8cm high. The spiral on which they walk count all the days from his arrival to the Netherlands to his birthday on the 5th of December.
